BIRDS

Birds are great, right?

I took on the challenge of painting a bird painting every day in January of 2024. Initially I just wanted a sketchbook practice that would keep me engaged, but as I continued to paint birds, I started thinking more about birds.

Here's what I like about birds: They're totally unselfconscious. They have bright, round, tall, short, wonderful bird bodies, and they don't waste a moment apologizing for that. I started thinking of these birds as little affirmations. Each bird that I paint knows that it is the fanciest, prettiest, silliest, coolest bird ever to exist.

As I continue to make art about the relationship between us and our bodies, I come back to birds, as a symbol of effortless confidence.
